The current Cabécar alphabet was standardized by the Costa Rican government in the 1990's, and is used for all current Bible translation work and literacy materials (previously, there had been several competing alphabets).  The alphabet follows Spanish pronunciation principles as far as possible, but of course differs for Cabécar sounds that are not found in Spanish.
