Cabécar Mission Overview
Since 2003, we have been sending medical,
evangelistic, construction, and discipleship mission trips to work among the
Cabécar Indians in Costa Rica. These works have been both in association
with the missions efforts of a church in church San José, Costa Rica, and have
also joined efforts with another long-time mission effort called River of God.
The
Cabécar are an indigenous people group concentrated in the mountains east of San
José, as indicated by the red area on the map on the right. We have sent
missions to the
Valle de la Estrella and the
Rio
Chirripó/Rio Pacuare areas.

more detailed version
(high
resolution version also available), or on the small boxes for a
detailed version of each region. (Talamanca used geographically actually
refers to a valley and reservation in Bribri territory on the Panama border.)
Kalberi, Valle de la Estrella
The mission church at Kalberi (Valle de la Estrella) is led by Pastor Pablo.
River of God, Grano de Oro
The River of God ministry (all regions) arose as the
second-generation ministry of the family of Aziel and Marian Jones, who began Bible
Translation work among the Cabécar in the 1950s. Currently three of the
children, Timothy, Philip, and David, with their families, are continuing the
ministry of Bible Translation, evangelism, and discipleship among the Cabécar.
- Timothy Jones is based at Grano de Oro, an Hispanic village high in the
mountains, and ministers to the southwest.
- Philip Jones is based at the old homestead at Tsipiri, and ministers to
the northeast.
- David Jones is based in the east in Valle Talamanca, which is near Valle de la Estrella.
